First Place Winner: Art at Gateway

Celebrating Art at Gateway

The Art at Gateway competition was created to enhance the appearance of the Life Sciences & Bioengineering Center's lobby with artistic contributions that featured science within Gateway. The winning entries were unveiled on May 21, 2009 at a cocktail reception.  Provost John Orr and Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Life, Janet

Richardson, were among those who attended.  The reception gave many members of the community an opportunity to socialize and congratulate the winners.

 

First Place:  The Universe Within, by Piyali Mazumdar
The painting was done on a stretched 11x15 canvas with acrylic paints. The inspiration comes from a photograph of the microscopic view of a stem cell. The brilliant colors in the photograph were astonishing to the eye and seemed perfect to put down on my canvas.  This work took 10-15 hours to complete.
